Design Guide:
___
Let’s design a mawmaw!
This guide will take you through a step-by-step process of designing a mawmaw with an example to help you design your own!

Step 1: Base Anatomy
To start, we need to draw our mawmaw.
I like to begin by drawing a “naked” mawmaw- or a mawmaw without their traits. You don’t have to do this, but it may be helpful if you want to get the species’ anatomy just right!

All we need to make sure of is that our mawmaw has the correct anatomical features; the scute over the nose, the beaked mouth, large paws, a compact body, and the 3-5 spines on the back!
___
Step 2: Adding Traits
Now that we have a base for our mawmaw’s design, we can figure out what traits we want to use for them!
It’s important to note here that all MYO slots have restrictions; or limitations to what traits you are able to use on your mawmaw. For this example, we’ll be designing our free Monthly MYO slot; which is limited to natural mawmaws with common traits only! We can pick any combination of common traits, but will only be allowed to use a common mane, a common tail, common ears, etc.
This includes additional traits; like fur tufts!

I’ve decided on using 2-curved horns, Pointed furred ears, a Normal fluff mane, a Short tuft tail, and added Fur tufts to my mawmaw’s design.
___
Step 3: Coloring
With our mawmaw drawn out, it’s time to color!
Mawmaws do not have strict coloration rules, so you can use any kind of coloration or patterns you want; be they bright and colorful, or more neutral and simple.
With that being said, there are a few important things to keep in mind:

With that being said, there are a few important things to keep in mind:
- A mawmaw’s horns, claws, and spines will always be the same color.
- The eyes may have any color for the sclera, iris, and pupil- but all three must be present.
- The color of the nostrils will always be the same color as the inside of the mouth.
- The scute can be any color, but will always match any other scales or scutes on the body if they are present.
Here is my finished mawmaw design!
If you’re having a hard time thinking of ideas for your mawmaw’s design, you may look to real life plants, animals, minerals, or man-made objects for inspiration! Mawmaws can take on a wide array of different appearances so feel free to play around with different themes or ideas for yours!

Addition: Things to Avoid
While mawmaws are fairly relaxed in terms of design restrictions, there are a few things you should try to avoid when designing your mawmaws; as we can refuse to approve a design that doesn’t fit the species or we feel isn’t in good taste.
Here are some things to keep in mind, and some that should be avoided:
You may use your mawmaws as regular characters, sonas, or even as alternative forms of your other characters if you so choose!
Once your mawmaw is designed, you may submit them for approval here!
Here are some things to keep in mind, and some that should be avoided:
- Avoid stylizing the anatomy or traits of your mawmaw so much that they are not recognizable.
- Avoid theming that may be inappropriate or harmful to others; such as basing your designs around cultures, hate speech, or adult themes.
- Avoid using copyrighted characters or characters that do not belong to you as inspiration for your designs (unless you are fine with other people using similar themes for their own mawmaws).
- Finally, be creative and have fun with your designs! Mawmaws should be enjoyable for everyone to design- so do what makes you happy!
