Mawmaw Factions
Following the fall of the ancient mawmaws, the survivors of the apocalyptic event were faced with a great divide between individuals who still believed in worshiping the reverent, and those who did not, after nearly being wiped out by the so-called gods. This separation of the remaining mawmaws dwindled their numbers even further and restricted them to different parts of the world, where their beliefs would echo through the generations and create moral and social rifts between the different groups. Though there have not been any wars, recent history is pushing the main factions closer to the breaking point...
The Diliger are mawmaws who see the reverent as their gods, and worship the ascended mawmaws as deities themselves; as many believe that they are the children of their gods who influence the health and wellness of their world.
These mawmaws believe that only through worship and submission to the gods will they make up for Malik's mistakes and restore themselves in the eyes of their gods. Tanden is the city where the Diliger are most prominent, as it is the one with the most connection to the reverent; and home of the remaining ascended mawmaws. |

The Griminare are a group of mawmaws who greatly oppose the reverent gods and view the ascended mawmaws as unwelcome reminders of the devotion the ancient mawmaws had for those who had struck them down. It's said that the Griminare follow Malik's ideals in forcibly reclaiming the reverent's magic they believe they are entitled to.
These mawmaws believe that they should cast aside worship and submission and reclaim their former prowess by force! Pyrwood is the home of the Griminare, who once used the underground Dakari City as their main headquarters (though it has since been abandoned). |
The Vitare are a group of mawmaws that do not look to the old gods for forgiveness or seek vengeance against them as the other two factions; but instead look to themselves and their magics to continue on in this world. Both sides of this faction believe in their own ability to adapt and evolve to this new world and base their teachings heavily on their current experiences.
However, in recent times, the faction has been split into two sub-factions: Noble Vitare are the mawmaws who believe in preserving the natural order of the world they are in and adapting to that, while the Chaotic Vitare seek knowledge of higher power in order to create a world where they become the strongest over everything else. The Noble Vitare are situated in the capital city of Arline, while the Chaotic Vitare have split away and taken over Keles. Their close proximity to one another often leads to small scuffles and disputes between the two cities. It's the separation of the formerly unified Vitare that has spurned on the new order; which has since changed the power of factions and their leaders as time moves on. |

What role does Faction play in a Mawmaw's life?
A mawmaw will choose what faction they want to be in based on their personal beliefs and what they feel is best for their species and the world they live in. Although they don't have to believe in anything at all, and be completely neutral if they choose, most mawmaws do find some place within these groups and share at least a few similar ideas with them- so true neutral standing individuals are pretty uncommon! Factions play a role in determining who is a part of which social group, and depending on where a mawmaw lives, there may be more people of one faction present in the population than the others, and that may have influence on what goes on in the town. The influence of a faction may be more apparent in places where the faction leaders reside, or where larger numbers of mawmaws within those groups live.
