What are Mawmaws?...
___
Mawmaws are a race of sapient, magic-wielding creatures who inhabit the world of Mesaya.
Back in ancient times, the ancestors of the mawmaws ruled the skies of Mesaya as powerful, winged dragons who lived in great, floating cities high above the surface world. The ancient mawmaws believed themselves to be the superior race, above the humans that once lived on Mesaya, claiming that their dominion of the skies meant that they were closer to, and thus more beloved by their gods, the reverent.
This belief would eventually bring the downfall of the ancient mawmaws.
As they were cast from the skies by the reverent, Mahanaim, the mawmaws lost their wings and had to adapt to life on the ground. Their bodies became stocky, and their legs grew more muscular- better suited for traversing the land they once shunned. No longer did the mawmaws resemble the likeness of dragons, but more so the creatures that dwelled upon the surface world.
In time, the mawmaws grew accustomed to this new way of life. Some embraced the changes while others sought ways to return to their former glory.
The mawmaws of today are much different than their ancient ancestors, however, with a culture and society that bears little resemblance to what it was like when their species lived in the skies.
